Wine-n-Chat is participating in the A to Z Challenge for the month of April. Today is letter N.
For letter F – I wrote about how I love the show Fringe. Well for letter N, no doubt I am going to blog about NCIS. This show airs on Tuesday nights, although, I DVR the show and watch it when I get a chance. However, I only started watching this show about 3 months ago, so I also DVR all the reruns on USA and another cable station, and I have successfully caught up seasons 1-8. Yes, it seems this show has become my obsession and my favorite of all the shows I watch on TV.
Now my understanding is many people watch this show because of Mark Harmon, who plays “Leroy Jethro Gibbs”, the lead investigator on the NCIS team. I get the attraction—he has good looks, his silent charm, and he doesn’t quit until he solves the case. He’s a bit of eye candy, however he’s just a little too old to get my heart thumping. No Mark Harmon doesn’t get it for me and I can’t get it out of my head that he beat the crap out of Bruce Willis on Moonlighting during season three, almost stealing ‘David Addison’ from ‘Maddy Hayes’. No, I haven’t quite forgiven Mr. Harmon for that nor Glenn Gordon Caron who wrote him into the show. So…while I do really love Harmon as Gibbs—he isn’t my favorite character.
Actually if the truth be known, besides the story lines really pulling you in—I think all the actors and actresses do a lot to make this show work. You have David McCallum that plays Dr Donald "Ducky" Mallard the team’s Medical Examiner, Pauly Perrette who plays as Abby Scuito the team’s forensic scientist, Sean Murray who plays Timothy McGee, who is part of the investigative team and known for his computer geek skills, Cote de Pablo who plays the once kick-butt Israeli Moussad liason to the team—but now is a US Citizen and an official NCIS agent, and then my favorite, Michael Weatherly, who plays Very Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo Jr., the team’s lead agent under Gibbs. He’s like the class clown that won’t quit—and when he isn’t joking around—he relates much of what he sees to a movie he’s once seen. Oh I should mention he’s my kinda sexy!!! Yes the main reason I tune into NCIS is to see Weatherly!! There are more characters to the team, but these are the core characters that I look forward to seeing each week.
So what is it about this show? I can’t really tell you just one thing, but I’ll say they keep it interesting. The team is always trying to solve a murder—or kidnapping involving a Marine or someone from the Navy. I've learned with the character deaths of Kate and Jenny to expect the unexpected! Something can happen one season and come back to haunt them the next. The writers are awesome—and each week I tune in to watch the continuing storyline. It is serious and at the same time humorous in parts, there is a mystery to each episode—but also a familiar predictability that they will eventually solve the case.
See!! I can’t really pinpoint why I love the show—but I’d tell you to tune into the show, if you haven’t already, and watch one of the best shows out there right now.
So what makes a show work for you?
Do you like the crime solving shows on TV? If so which ones?
Cheers,

Mary and I like NCIS because it can be very funny. The banter in the squad room, Ducky's bizarre tagents, Abby's overly-technical explanations and tangents, even Gibbs gets into the act sometimes. If I had one complaint, it's that it's lost some of that humor.
