My Perfect Meal *Insert Laughter*

NaBloPoMo’s question today is to discuss the best meal I ever cooked.

*snort*

Okay—so I am typically not much of a cook.  I’ve discussed this numerous times.  I’m doing good to get Spaghetti O’s and hotdogs on the dinner table.  Even ramen noodles can be a challenge for me, mostly because I tend to make them soupier than my kids would like.  Nutritious eh?  Not so much.

Cindy avatarI am pretty good at breakfast stuff, especially cinnamon rolls.  You see, during college, I worked at Cindy’s Cinnamon Rolls in the mall—and I learned how to make them darned things taste divine.  Of course, if you were to witness the amount of sugar that goes into the icing alone, you would have nightmares about teeth crumbling out of your head—just like me!!!

Okay—disregard that last thought.  *evil laughter*

Alas, while there are enough calories in a cinnamon roll to equate to 3 meals, it does not make a meal in itself.

I have a little secret!  I know how to make Prime Rib!!  Yeah baby!!  You see from Thanksgiving to Christmas, we are always going to visit family.  We are always having turkey and ham and by Christmas Day for our meal, we are pretty darned tired of Turkey and Ham.  So about 6 years ago, we decided to change our Christmas Day menu to Prime Rib. Talk about a game changer!!

And so the art of prime-rib perfection began!!

Our menu usually consists of:
Prime Rib, Baked Potato, Green Bean Casserole, German Noodles, Rolls, and of course dessert.  In our house, dessert equates to a couple of pumpkin pies and specialty cheesecakes made by my husband.

And I sometimes, but not always help the hubby cook this entire thing—but mostly I concentrate on the prime rib!!

prime-rib~~I use a super cool blend of seasonings that only my husband knows how to blend, but I get to rub them on the prime-rib before it goes in the oven!

~~I get to “keep an eye” on it while it cooks.

~~My husband bought a fancy shmancy thermometer so I know exactly when my prime rib is done cooking.

~~Then I get to pull it out of the oven.

And hubby makes these nice cuts and I get to serve our family prime rib like I did everything!!

Aren’t I super special????

Hey—no laughing at me!!  It is too cooking!!!  HMPH!  *pouts*

You know what the best part is about Christmas and having prime rib???

Cabernet Sauvignon

That’s right—Cabernet Sauvignon!!  Served with the prime-rib—there could be nothing better!

Oh what perfection!

**Sorry kiddo’s that’s all for Mommy!**

Alright—so admittedly, I am not much of a cook—but I do a good job with babysitting the prime rib when there is a conveniently placed fire extinguisher nearby.  Hey think on the bright side, I haven’t had to call out the fire department on Christmas Day yet!!

What is the best meal you’ve ever cooked??

Cheers,

What would a prime rib turn out to be if it didn't have a lovely, wine drinking minder, Jenn! I too have a husband like yours. Aren't we the lucky ones? ;)

You are just tooooooooo much! As always, I enjoy reading your honest reactions to cooking. You've really made my mouth water in thinking about prime rib. I've never been brave enough to tackle such an elegant (expensive) cut of beef. But wish I could have your specifics on cooking the prime rib and maybe I would do it. Thanks for your story!

I well get them for you. Honestly, I do have to wait til the husband gets home to tell you what sized prime rib, cooking instructions, and all that. (I literally don't remember--but he will.) OHHHH I just can't wait to have some this year!!!

I envy you because I'm actually scared to cook any meat because I'm constantly reminded to clean, clean CLEAN the cutting board and knives...I might as well just put on a Hazmat suit when it comes to cooking meat LOL! But that whole meal sounds divine!

Best meal ever? Barbeque chicken sandwiches. Made the chicken in the crock pot - there was no talking at the table! This was a really fun post to read...

Jane-- I probably would have never attempted it if my husband wasn't here to supervis-- I mean support me :D I probably should be more afraid of germs and that sort of thing--but alas I am a little aloof when it comes to that sort of thing. (Hey!! Good thing have a hubby that takes care of it for me!) Cheers, Jenn
